Stunning: Emma Watson was wearing a beautiful off-the-shoulder nude chiffon floor length pleated frock for the Baftas in London
It was the biggest night of the year for the British film industry as the great and the good from here and across the Pond gathered in London for the Bafta awards.
But of course, no star-studded showbiz event would be complete without oodles of red carpet glamour.
And Harry Potter star Emma Watson led the charge last night for home grown beauty as she shone on the red carpet at the Royal Opera House in a stunning floor length nude gown.
Stunning: Emma, left, was described by JK Rowling as like 'my daughter' as they posed with the Outstanding Contribution to British Cinema award for the Harry Potter films
She was hoping not to repeat her wardrobe malfunction of a pre-Baftas party on Saturday night in London, when she inadvertently flashed her chest with some tape keeping her plunging frock in place gave way.
Talking to Sky News, the Harry Potter actress said of the film's Outstanding British Contribution To Cinema award on the night: 'We're really honoured, it's nice to be able to accept it on behalf of all the hundreds of Brits who have been involved in the film over the past 10 years.'
Honoured: Emma Watson spoke of Harry Potter being awarded Outstanding British Contribution To Cinema award, saying: 'We're really honoured'
The actress stood next to JK Rowling on the red carpet, who described Emma as 'like my daughter'.
Bafta winner Helena Bonham Carter, who won Best Supporting Actress for The King's Speech, arrived in trademark Vivienne Westwood, a flawless black and very slightly regal frock.
Talking to reporters on the red carpet, she joked that she didn't worry about the constant comments about what she was wearing.
Newcomers: 14-year-old nominee for True Grit, Hailee Steinfeld, wore a black lace Prada dress but admitted that she was freezing without a coat, meanwhile Minnie Driver also braved the cold in a long white gown
With reference to her outfit at the Golden Globes, she laughed: 'I am wearing matching shoes, I got it right! To be honest, I just put my head down, I wouldn't leave the house if I did (pay attention to the comments). I just put on what I want and leave the house.'
She added that the success of The King's Speech had taken everyone by surprise too.
Helena exclaimed: 'It's a tiny movie, we didn't think that a king who can't speak would be a huge commercial success. You can't predict it. But people really genuinely love it and that's the best you can hope for, just making people a little bit happier.'
Red carpet glamour: Helena Bonham Carter looked glamorous in her trademark Vivienne Westwood meanwhile Julianne Moore stunned in blue velvet
Meanwhile, Julianne Moore stunned in a blue velvet strapless dress and bright red lipstick for a glamorous entrance.

The look of love: Colin Firth and his Italian wife Livia couldn't hide their affection for one another in front of the cameras
Sir Paul's pick: Sir Paul McCartney arrived with his daughter Mary and partner Nancy Shevell, and told reporters that although he contributed a song to The Social Network, he prefers The King's Speech as a film
Talking to reporters, he said he was thrilled to be there. He added: 'We're at The Royal Opera House, the temple of the human voice, celebrating a film about a man who can't speak. There's a nice irony about that.'
The King's Speech also grabbed the attention of a number of other celebrities and Sir Paul McCartney told Sky News that he was a big fan of the British Film.
He said: 'The King's Speech was a great film this year, along with The Social Network. We've got a song in The Social Network but I prefer The King's Speech.'

Girls Aloud singer Kimberley also wore a long gown which had a plunging neckline and was decorated with snowflakes that looked pretty twinkling under the lights.

Scarlet fever: Sarah Harding made sure to turn heads at the Baftas in a bright red dress with a thigh-high split and matching peep-toe heels, while Jessica Alba sported a bright colour in a royal blue strapless gown
Pretty in pink: Thandie Newton looked beautiful in a floral pink strapless gown and Jameela Jamil also took part in a floral theme in a black and red flower printed dress
Those who weren't nominated for any awards still tried to steal the spotlight in bright dresses, such as Sarah Harding's scarlet red gown that boasted a thigh-high split up her leg and matching peep-toe heels.
Jessica Alba also opted for a bright splash of colour, and sashayed down the red carpet in a royal blue strapless frock.
All that glitters: Rachel Stevens, who will be hosting the event from the red carpet for Orange, sparkled in her bejewelled dress as she arrived at the ceremony

Arterton has been nominated for the Rising Star Award and told reporters: 'I'm so excited, but if anyone else won it, they'd deserve it too.'
