But when you've got a figure like Kelly Brook, they are exceptions to the rule.
The British model, 31, showed off her curves to full effect in a tight pink T-shirt and Lycra leggings as she walked to her Pilates class in Beverly Hills yesterday.
The outfit looked far more suitable for her pilates class than the unflattering ensemble she was pictured in on Tuesday.
Photographed with the same blonde friend earlier this week, Brook wore a wrinkled grey playsuit, blue and green checked shirt and scruffy brown ankle boots.
Her casual gym look is a far cry from her usual high-maintenance glamorous style.
Brook has spent the past two weeks in Los Angeles doing modelling jobs and attending auditions.

She then uploaded a photo of a row of pizzas and another one of a bowl of Rice Crispies in the sunny back garden of her new home.

While she's working in LA, Brook is currently renting a £6,000-a-week house in Hollywood.
