That's a little BRIT short! Alesha Dixon and Kayla Collins flaunt thigh-skimming dresses as they lead the red carpet glamour

By GEORGINA LITTLEJOHN

Short and sexy: It was all about the legs for Alesha Dixon and Kayla Collins tonight as they posed for the cameras at the BRIT Awards in their thigh-skimming dresses

She might have complained that it was raining outside but that didn't stop Alesha Dixon baring her skin to the elements.

The singer arrived at last night's BRIT Awards in a very short, thigh-skimming gold dress that complemented her toned golden legs.

But giving her a run for her money in the leggy stakes was glamour model Kayla Collins, who wore a Black Swan-esque little black dress and towering stiletto heels.

Cute couple: Kayla arrived at the bash with The Only Way Is Essex star Mark Wright, who she has been dating for several weeks

The I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here contestant looked ready to party in her tutu-style dress, as she posed for the cameras with her date for the night, The Only Way Is Essex star Mark Wright.

And he looked pleased as punch to be by her side as the couple cuddled in close for the flashbulbs.

Alesha, who arrived alone, also beamed for the cameras after taking to her Twitter page today so announce her excitement - and give her support to rising star Jessie J.

Colourful: Singer Rihanna looked like a multi-coloured mille feuille as she arrived on the red carpet in a turquoise and purple layered dress by Christian Dior Haute Couture

Purple princess: Tess Daly looked a vision in her lavender dress as she arrived at the bash with husband Vernon Kay - who was dressed down in jeans

She wrote: 'Looking forward to the Brits tonight! Good luck to all the artists performing! I'm especially excited for miss @jessiejofficial.'

And she added that the drizzle wasn't going to dampen her spirits and added: 'Ready for the red carpet! Wish it would stop raining!!! But very excited can't wait to see the show!!! :).'

Green goddesses: Katherine Jenkins and Jessie J may be on other sides of the music spectrum, but they both dazzled in gorgeous shades of green tonight

Setting their own style: Paloma Faith wore a shimmering silver and black dress complete with a big black bow while Sophie Ellis Bexter opted for 50s chic in her polka-dot red dress

Joining them on the red carpet for one of British music's biggest night's of the year, was R&B star Rihanna performed during last night's show.

Rihanna, who was asked by ITV bosses to tone down her act for the pre-watershed show, looked like a multi-coloured mille feuille as she arrived on the red carpet in a turquoise and purple layered dress.

Like a bird: Young singer Eliza Doolittle opted for a short and tight white dress which was decorated with purple and orange feathers at the back

TV presenters and married couples Tess Daly and Vernon Kay were also guests, but while Tess got her glam on in a very simple yet chic purple dress, her other half kept it casual in jeans and a T-shirt.

But tonight's red carpet was dominated by oddles of British glamour as our female chart stars turned out in the sexiest and chicest attire.

Airwaves chic: Radio 1 girls Jo Whilye, who looked ravishing in her short orange number, and Sara Cox, who wore a short black dress with her hair in ballerina braids, were also guests

Off-white on the night: Former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt and singer Ellie Goulding went for ivory and cream

Singers Paloma Faith and Sophie Ellis Bextor wowed the flashbulbs in their own contemporary style.

Paloma wore a shimmering silver and black dress complete with a big black bow while Sophie opted for Fifties chic in her polka-dot red dress.

Rock chicks: Fearne Cotton, who has taken a poorly Kylie's place to present an award, looked stunning in her studded dress while Avril Lavingne showed off a kooky black mop dress and coloured streaks in her hair

Party girls: Sugababe Heidi Range kept it simple but funky in a loose play suit while actress Preeya Kalidis showed off her curves in a tight cat suit.

And it seemed that apart from being a Bafta, Golden Globe and possibly a soon-to-be Oscar winner, the film Black Swan may have also inspired a couple of tonight's outfits.

Apart from Kayla Collins, young star Eliza Doolittle decided feathers were the way to go this evening, as she accessorised her very short white dress with orange and purple feathers which hid her modesty as they covered the mesh part of her dress across her bottom.

Contrasting: While singer Corrine Bailey Rae wore a bold strapless fandango pink dress while Liz McLarnon kept it very simple in a black dress

And even Radio 1 DJ Sara Coz looked the part in her short black dress which was very similar to Kayla's, but she topped the look with ballerina braids on top of her head.

Other ladies who shone on the red carpet tonight included Fearne Cotton and Avril Lavigne who were every inch the rock chicks with their outfits.

Black beauties: Singers Rumer and Adele looked gorgeous in their pretty black dresses

Fearne, who looked stunning in her studded dress and towering red heels, presented the Best British Breakthrough Act award, stepping in for Kylie who had to pull out of the event due to a bad cold.

And Avril went from skater girl to rock goddess in her kooky black mop dress and coloured streaks in her hair.

TV and radio chic: TV presenter Emma Willis looked dainty and elegant in her cream lace dress while radio star Lisa Snowdon stood out in her bright green dress

Also attending were singers Rumer and Adele who looked gorgeous in their pretty black dresses, while in contrast, former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt and singer Ellie Goulding took to the red carpet in off-white dresses.

Sugababe Heidi Range kept it simple but funky in a loose play suit while actress Preeya Kalidis showed off her curves in a tight cat suit.

And while TV presenter Emma Willis went for dainty and elegant in her cream lace dress, radio star Lisa Snowdon looked stunning and stood out in her bright green dress.

Dazzling: Caprice, who had darkened her usually bright blonde hair, showed off her slender frame in a short strapless number, while socialite Hofit Golan sparkled in her bejwelled feathered dress
