Dreaming of the cha-cha on the choo-choo, Ann? Miss Widdecombe sleeps off gruelling Strictly routine while on train

Land of nod: Former MP Ann Widdecombe fast asleep on the train at Finsbury Park, London, shattered after too much dancing

Weeks of gruelling dance training would take their toll on the fittest of professional dancers.

So after almost two months on Strictly Come Dancing, Ann Widdecombe can be forgiven for feeling more than a little tired.

The former MP, who has starred on the hit dance TV show since September, was pictured fast asleep on a London Overground train at Finsbury Park on Tuesday.

The 63-year-old was clearly exhausted, with her face pressed up against the train’s dirty window and her eyes firmly shut.

In fact, fellow passengers may well have wondered whether her antics on the BBC show had been a little too much for her.

Two weeks ago, she was strapped in a harness and flew across the stage for a tango with dance partner Anton du Beke.

And last weekend, she gripped the nation again with her hilarious version of the paso doble, during which she was dragged along the floor by du Beke to the soundtrack of Wild Thing.

It was a painful performance for both the audience and for the contestant – leaving her covered in bruises.

And there is no letting up for the former Minister, who this weekend tackles the speedy Charleston.

In a column this week, she wrote: ‘The paso doble, my favourite dance, left me covered in bruises but at least it was slow enough to allow me to gather my wits between steps.

‘This week I am dancing the Charleston, which is horribly fast.’

But it appears, despite the fatigue, she is enjoying her time on the show. ‘One step at a time, so to speak, is the right approach but I would love to last the course because I have never had so much fun,’ she added
