Since leaping to fame last month, the stars of The Only Way Is Essex have captivated viewers with their complicated lovelives, fake tan, plunging necklines and hair extensions.

So it was a surprise to see the reality stars wearing natural make-up, curly wigs and wearing Edwardian clothing.

The show's stars, including Amy Childs, Sam Faiers and Kirk Norcross were taken out of their comfort zone as they were given a Downton Abbey makeover for a photoshoot.

Beautician Childs, 20, covered up her dyed red hair with a black wavy wig and hid her surgically-enhanced cleavage beneath a high-necked blouse and cream skirt suit.

Her best friend, glamour model Faiers, 19, looked demure in a white lacy floor-length gown and strawberry blonde bobbed wig.

They were by Childs' ex-boyfriend, nightclub owner Kirk Norcross, 22, who looked dapper in a cream suit, blue tie and slicked back hair.

Also joining them for the shoot were co-stars and real-life friends Harry Derbidge, 16; James Argent, 22, Lydia Bright, 22, and Candy Jacobs, 27.

But if they were also donning Edwardian clothing for the shoot, they kept them out of sight of the paparazzi outside the studio.

Along with Downton Abbey, The Only Way Is Essex has been one of ITV's most successful new shows this autumn with both attracting huge audience.

The finale of Series 1 of Downton on ITV1 attracted 10.1million people, while over a million tuned in to watch The Only Way Is Essex on ITV2.

The 10-episode series was such a success, ITV2 have now signed up the cast for a Christmas special next month, and a rumoured second series in the new year.

And this is how they looked earlier: Amy (left) and Sam in their usual get-up (tight, low-cut dresses, fake nails and fake tans) on Thursday night
