What police cuts? THREE squad cars turn up to Katie Price's house... after some fans ring doorbell for an autograph

Enthusiastic response: Three squad cars turned up to Katie Price's Surrey home today

The police force is currently facing the challenges of losing a fifth of its funding over the next four years.

But you would never know there was a crisis outside Katie Price's home in Surrey today, when no fewer than three police vehicles arrived to assist the reality star.

But it was far from the emergency situation it appeared to be as the squad cars lined up along the country road - in fact, they were called to deal with a small group of fans who had rang Price's doorbell asking for an autograph.

Drama: Police attended to deal with a group of fans who rang the doorbell asking for an autograph from the star

The over-attentive police unit raced to the scene despite there being no danger to the reality star - her large gates at the end of the driveway kept the eager fans well away from her home.

Further, Katie, 32, wasn't even at home at the time. The model was in Manchester for the day at the Sky call centre.

She tweeted this evening: 'On way back from manchester thankyou everyone at sky call centre for making me feel welcome xx'

A spokesperson for Price is yet to respond to a request for comment on the incident.

This isn't the first time the police have gallantly stepped up to assist Price in her time of need.

Last month they drew heavy criticism for forming a rolling road block to shield her from photographers on the A3.

Police confirmed that an investigation was launched after complaints by furious motorists who were left trailing behind during the delays caused by her VIP treatment in early February.

At the time, photographer Ben Benjilali - one of four snappers who had been waiting close to the reality TV star’s home and was caught in the chaos - told agency reporters that it was not unusual for paparazzi to follow Ms Price and she would normally happily stop and pose for pictures.

But as her Range Rover car joined the A3 from the M25 a police vehicle appeared and introduced a 50mph speed limit behind the car for eight minutes..

One Surrey resident Ian Whittaker, from Hindhead, was so infuriated by the incident that he has lodged a formal complain with Surrey police.

‘As a Surrey taxpayer, I am concerned that limited police resources are being abused in this manner,’ he said.

‘If any of the press or other road users were driving above the speed limit, they should have been prosecuted.

Cosy: While her exes were out at the star-studded Children's Champions Awards last night, Katie tweeted a picture of Leandro cooking her dinner at home

‘This looks like star-struck Surrey Police officers pandering to the ego of a minor celebrity.’

Meanwhile Katie managed to avoid drama for once by staying home rather than attending the reality star-studded Children's Champions awards in London.

Both of her exes - Peter Andre and Alex Reid turned up to the ceremony, but Katie side-stepped a potentially awkward situation by staying at home.

Instead, she tweeted a picture of new love Leandro Penna cooking her a cosy meal of roast chicken.
